For Luke’s Late Night Up, we played the original Sonic the Hedgehog. I hadn’t played it with him for a long time. We used to play it in Utah, back when Luke was four years old. Luke can play the game much better than I can now.

History Par-tay!!!
Yesterday we had our very last lesson from the book, Story of the World. I love this book for history. It is in chronological order and written as a story (less textbookishly). I am so impressed with how many things Luke and Isabel (and even Sylvia) have learned. I am also happy that I have learned a lot as well. Going through this book is just more proof to me that I NEVER listened or knew what was going on in school. How come no one ever told me about this neat guy…what’s his name? Julius Caesar? Speaking of him, we ended with the fall of the Roman Empire so our party’s theme was, you guessed it, the Roman Empire.
We had friends over to celebrate with us. Here is Isabel making the deviled eggs (I guess Roman’s ate a lot of eggs??)
Luke cut and prepared the grapes.
Once I said the word “Party” Sylvia had to have a party hat for it. Here she is helping me make the pizza dough. Pizza without marinara sauce mind you. I guess in ancient Rome that’s the way they did it.
Hazel washed the dishes…yeah right.
I don’t have any pictures of the actual par-tay because we were having way too much fun matching Latin and English words as well as making our own mosaics.
I am not so sure they had Italian Sodas back then 🙂 and somehow there were some homemade Chinese lanterns at this party. But I guess we learned about Ancient China as well, so they were appropriate.

Another Zoo Trip

We love the building where they have animals to pet and learn about. Today they had some bunnies, snakes and this bearded dragon.
Feeding the giraffes is always a favorite.
Poor peacock was harassed by Sylvia.
Sylvia won the screaming contest and the bird won the staring contest.
Calligraphy and Harry
A friend of mine is teaching Isabel and me calligraphy! Today we had our first lesson. Here is Isabel’s practice paper.
Luke has read all of the Harry Potter books. For the last couple of months, every night he has been reading to the girls starting with book one. The girls love their big brother reading to them and he reads until he falls asleep at the end of their bed.

Merry Christmas in August!
I have a book that my parents gave me called the Preschooler’s Busy Book that I highly recommend. Great activities to do or make with household items. My goal right now is to be using it more with Sylvia since she needs to be working on, creating, putting together, making, gluing or mixing on a daily basis and if I am not showing her and doing with her, then I find huge messes. Here is a project she came up with herself yesterday while the windshield replacement guys were working on our car in the driveway.

Luke and I tried to play Super Monkey Ball on the Wii for his Late Night Up, but the disc was scratched. We tried fixing it, using both the toothpaste and Vaseline method, but neither worked. So we ate ice cream and watched YouTube videos instead.
