Make Your Own Laundry Detergent (Liquid and Powder) and Toothpaste

Liquid Laundry Detergent
1 bar of Felz Naptha or Zote (1/4 bar) soap shaved
1 cup borax
2 cups washing soda
1 cup baking soda
3 gallons of hot water
Grate soap into sauce pan.  Add 4 cups of hot water.  Simmer on low until soap disolves. Add borax, washing soda, and baking soda. Mix. Add 3 gallons of hot water to bucket.  Add soap mix.  Stir and let cool. Use 1 cup per load (1/2 cup for high efficient machines.)

Powder Laundry Detergent
1 bar of Felz Naptha Soap
1 bar Dove or Ivory
1 cup of Borax
1 cup of washing soda
1/2 cup baking soda
Grate each bar. Mix with powders. Use 2 Tablespoons per load (1 tablespoon for high efficient machines.)

We also made toothpaste.  baking soda, water and mint flavor.

It was pretty disgusting.  Note Sylvia spitting and rinsing her mouth out.

We also made our own dish detergent but I am still trying to perfect it so I don’t want to put the recipe up.  But google it and try it out!

  1. You are my hero! How did you know this is on my to-do list this week? I’ve seen recipes, didn’t buy new soap at Costco & am determined to try it out! Thanks for the extra boost!

  2. Thanks for sharing this! I think I will try to make it with my boys this summer and then teach my cub scouts.

I just read all the updates on your blog and enjoyed it. You are a fun mom!
